Jeff Lofton
NPR affiliate KUT describes jazz trumpeter Jeff Lofton as "... a veritable jazz virtuoso." Jeff studied composition at the University of South Carolina and moved to Austin in 2007. Since then he's been voted Best Jazz Band at the '10-'11 Austin Music Awards during SXSW; January 15, 2009 was named "Jeff Lofton Day" by the City of Austin; and he was inducted into the Texas Music Museum. The Austin American-Statesman's 2010 Out and About 500: Music list noted his "ubiquitous presence and articulate advocacy." His album, "Jazz to the People," made the 2009 top albums lists for the Austin Chronicle and KUT. Jeff opened the 2012 TEDxAustin conference with live improvisation based on one his originals, "Rose," with composer and pianist Graham Reynolds. The Jeff Lofton Trio performs original music in the Austin indie film, "A Swingin' Trio," which has been shown in many film festivals across the country. Reviews of Jeff Lofton's 1950s Miles Davis Tribute include "as good as the real thing" by the San Antonio Express-News.  The Jeff Lofton Trio's Thursday night residency in the lounge at Ruth's Chris Steak House celebrates three years in November.

Donna Hightower
Jazz singer Donna Hightower retired to Austin recently and occasionally still performs with some of her favorite local musicians. Her many career highlights include being signed by Capital Records in 1958, performances at the Apollo Theater, and touring the "chitlin circuit" with Louis Jordan and B.B. King in the 1950s. Most of the Missouri-born singer's career happened in Europe, where she went to sing for a week at a London jazz club in 1959 and stayed 31 years. In 2005, she was the guest of honor of the IV Festival Internacional de Jazz in Spain, featuring her former tour mate B.B. King and others. Among her great hits, the most famous is "This World Today Is a Mess," a single that sold over one million copies in Europe.
