The Cantors of St. Thomas Leipzig Schelle, Kuhnau, and Knüpfer
J.S. Bach was undoubtedly the most famous musician to occupy the post of cantor at the Saint Thomaskirche in Leipzig. However, he was but one in a long succession of very distinguished musicians. The sacred music of Johann Schelle, Sebastian Knüpfer and Johann Kuhnau illustrates the depth, breadth, and profundity of musical output by Bach's predecessors.
