The Story of Boogie Woogie
Ezra Charles has created a new act showcasing his virtuoso piano skills that reveals the story behind boogie woogie. "Nobody doesn't like boogie woogie!" is his jumping-off point, as he weaves a fascinating history of this bouncing, jiving piano format. Peppering the dialogue with his own stories of personal interaction with the Masters, he performs many of the most famous standards of this genre as he explains the relationship between Blues, Jazz, Ragtime and what was originally called "Texas-Style Piano." Accompanied by his son Jakob on percussion, they re-create the excitement of this favorite piano sound from a century ago. This will be a one-performance, matinee event. The show runs about two hours, including an intermission.
Two levels of seating are available: Preferred ($35) and General Admission ($25.) Most Preferred seats have a table and are closest to the stage. Patrons with ADA requirements should buy Preferred seating to guarantee access. Seats will be assigned by the theater in order of purchase date: the earlier the puchase, the better the seat. For questions about seating, parking, etc. please call The Music Box Theater at 713-522-7722, open Tuesday-Thursday 10-5 Friday-Saturday 10-7. To buy tickets offline, please call the Ezra Charles office at 713-202-1529 open 24/7.
