SUN 11/13 FILM SCREENING - Beyond Right and Wrong: Stories of Justice and Forgiveness
"Somewhere between right and wrong, there is a garden. I will meet you there.---Rumi
The Contemplative Studies Project of New York Presents a special film screening and panel discussion of:
BEYOND RIGHT AND WRONG: STORIES OF JUSTICE AND FORGIVENESS Directed by Lekha Singh and Roger Spottiswoode
With hypnotic directness and sensitivity, this remarkable and widely-acclaimed documentary explores the emotional terrain that exists between perpetrators of terrible crimes, and their victims. Winner of several awards internationally and praised as very special by Bishop Desmond Tutu, Beyond Right and Wrong: Stories of Justice and Forgiveness, follows the delicate, extraordinary relationships that form between several dyads of perpetrator and sufferer, and the mutual transformations that occur. With a quiet meditative intensity, the filmmakers interview pairs of murderers and loved ones of the murdered, in the Middle East, Northern Ireland and Rwanda, and address the questions: How does one forgive? How does one atone for deeds that seem beyond forgiveness and atonement?
To watch this movie is to expand ones sense of the possibilities of the human heart.
Please join us for this special screening, which will be followed by a discussion featuring panelists with unique personal and professional experiences facing these questions.
Admission for this event has a suggested fee of $10. All profits will go to charity.
