Punk jazz? Blues prog? EDM jam band? Eclectic is Teddy Kumpel's middle name, but that didn't stop him from inventing a new kind of music. LOOPestra showcases his on-the-fly song productions and singular musical voice. With live looping technology and clever use of modern guitar efx that swirl around the room, Teddy carries listeners to edge of the cliff and delivers them to brilliantly orchestrated, humorous songs in a way that will make you think there are five other musicians backstage even though you only see three. If Jackson Pollock were a guitar player, he would play like Kumpel, throwing licks against the wall to see if they'll stick. Teddy tours with Joe Jackson, played on a Grammy winning album, has produced award winning projects, and hosts NYC's top musicians in LOOPestra's rotating cast. Adept at all aspects of music creation and production, Teddy's musical wizardry leaves his audiences in disbelief and begging for more.
Despite what the multi layered sound might tell you, everything you hear from the Teddy Kumpel LOOPestra on stage is played live. With innovative use of looping technology and his vast experience mangling vintage and modern sounds Teddy effortlessly creates myriad textures that make you think there must be a whole slew of musicians hiding backstage. A veritable funkdafied
Additional guests throughout the evening will be: Steve Jenkins (Vernon Reid, Screaming Headless Torsos) and Tobias Ralph (Andrian Belew Power Trio)
Chris has been called many things: arcane improviser, sound diabolist, fearless composer, content junkie, video stunt guitarist, crazed educator and the list goes on. If you're looking for simpler terms you can go with recording artist (Lava/Atlantic, Lion Music, RKM/Kindred), sideman (Dweezil Zappa, Karsh Kale, Bumblefoot, Graham Haynes), educator (TrueFire, Berklee College of Music, Guitarinstructor.com), music journalist/columnist (Guitar Player, Guitar One, Just Jazz Guitar), and author (Hal Leonard, Alfred, Cengage Learning).
Call him what you want, but one thing is certain this cat is bad-ass and busy. Not to be tied down to any one identity for too long, Chris Buono is perpetually morphing his chameleon-like media profile making it nearly impossible to pigeon-hole his artistic output into a singular category. With a guitar in hand and a slew of gadgets within arms reach, Chris Buono infiltrates the modern world of guitar from all directions and shows no signs of slowing down.
