Pictures at an Exhibition: A Tribute to Friendships
A community art event inspired by Modest Mussorgsky's musical tribute to his artist friend Viktor Hartmann. Reserve FREE premium tickets for this family event here and be eligible for a raffle gift. Online tickets available until November 4, 2016 4:00pm.
The Inspiration: The Russian composer Mussorgsky's timeless masterpiece, "Pictures at an Exhibition," was written in 1874 as a musical promenade through an exhibition of Hartmann's artworks and as a testament to their deep friendship. Experience the power of community as we come together to share in the universal nature of both art and friendship on November 5 in Jenkins Auditorium, Malden, MA.
The Event: Award-winning and world class concert pianist Yelena Beriyeva will perform Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" with multi-media projections of visual art, a juried art show of local artists who have created works in response to the music, and tributes to friendship created by the public to be hung at the concert site and offered in an open-mic segment of the program.
Bring your own tribute to a friend or loved one. Your tribute can be on an 8.5 x 11 inch paper. It can be a drawing, painting, photo, quote, poem, or memory of someone special. Create it beforehand or make it on site. These contributions will be hung in the auditorium and later exhibited in Commerce Place.
An artbook of the local artists' displayed works will be sold. Order your copy in advance and receive it on the concert day, autographed by Yelena Beriyeva. Go to maldencreates.com/book to pre-order the book. Pre-orders can be made as of October 7.
Order your tickets online here and be eligible for one of five raffle prizes: 1. Gift Certificate for Up to 5 people to Quest for as-long-as-you-like, value $150 (Boda Borg) 2/3.Gift Certificate to Dockside Restaurant (2) - $25.00 4.
