Project Management for Social Good Applying Project Management principles and the concepts of Service Integration to address Homelessness in Hawaii
Hawaii has a homeless crisis, with the highest rate per capita in the United States. The Wahiawa and Central Oahu areas experienced the largest increase in their homeless population, nearly doubling in the last 3 years. A newly formed Action Committee, the Wahiawa Homeless Alliance, is being proactive and directly addressing the homeless situation in their community. Come and learn how your fellow members from PMI HNL are volunteering to provide consulting and planning services, and create a structured, project-based approach to increase efficiency and improve outcomes.
Speaker Bio Phil Acosta has worked on several IT projects of varying size, scope, and complexity for the past 15 years for the Department of Education, Department of Defense, and most recently the Department of Human Services. He received his MBA in Technology Management in 2006, earned his PMP certification and joined the PMI Honolulu Chapter in 2012.
Currently, he is devoting his time and energy as a volunteer for ALEA Bridge, a Non-Profit Organization, with a focus on community outreach in Central Oahu, and addressing the homelessness issues through collaborative and comprehensive solutions. This organization is committed to providing assistance to Hawaiis homeless and at-risk population, to help rebuild a life of HOPE, PURPOSE, and SUCCESS.
