SACRA/PROFANA Presents: LOCAL CONNECTIONS
This May, its all about connections for professional vocal ensemble SACRA/PROFANA. San Diegos go-to choir will present Local Connections, a chance to experience choral music that has its roots in San Diego with connections to some of the biggest names in music.
Many may already know that Bing Crosby, George Harrison, Jason Mraz, and Eddie Vedder all once called San Diego home, but did you know that Robert Shaw served as Music Director of the San Diego Symphony or that Benjamin Britten resided in Escondido while fleeing the violence of World War II? All of the composers in this carefully crafted program have local ties (some more widely known than others) to Americas Finest City.
In addition to Shaw and Britten, other composers with local ties include Matt McBane, Founder and Director of the Carlsbad Music Festival and staple in the San Diego musical landscape; David Ward-Steinman, who was a professor at SDSU; Jason Rosenberg, who received his Ph.D. from UCSD; San Diego native Bradley Nelson, and many others.
SACRA/PROFANA is honored to present this concert in three separate venues with unique significance: the Maritime Museum of San Diego, which showcases San Diegos nautical history; ARTS (A Reason To Survive) Center, which is dedicated to providing creative arts programs for local youth facing adversity; and the Oceanside Museum of Art, which features the work of outstanding local artists.
Under the direction of Associate Artistic Director Juan Carlos Acosta, Local Connections will truly represent local choral artists singing music by composers with local ties surrounded by local art and history.
