From Schumann With Love
Schumanns Piano Concerto started life as a fantasy for piano and orchestra, which Schumann broadened into a concerto at his wifes suggestion. Dignified and lush, Schumanns Piano Concerto spins out into joy, a tribute to his brilliant pianist wife. Chi Yong Yun, international soloist, recitalist and lecturer, provides a captivating performance with the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra.
The night begins with the overture to Mozarts La clemenza di Tito, an opera written by the composer in just 18 days in honor of King Leopold IIs coronation as King of Bohemia. Though Leopolds wife dismissed it as a German mess performances of it were popular in Europe for most of the 1800s, though today it exists as a hidden gem from Mozarts final days.
Beaverton Symphony ends the evening with Haydn's Symphony No. 103, created by the newly free-wheeling composer during one of the happiest times of his life composing symphony after symphony in London after thirty years of working for the Esterházy family. Symphony No. 103, opens and closes with a call to arms (drums in the beginning and horns at the end) and in between seemlessly weaves together old Croation folksongs.
