In case you wanted to know, here is some more info on Ithaka!
Synopsis: Marine Captain Elaine Edwards has just returned from her latest tour in Afghanistan but this time things are different - home doesnt feel right and nothing makes sense. After a blow up fight with her husband propels her to skip town, she undertakes an Odyssean journey through the American landscape battling her monsters, trying to find her way home.
Andrea Stolowitz's work draws from interviews with veterans and their families. In Fall 2011, Stolowitz was awarded the Fowler/Levin Prize with this winning play concept.
We are also so delighted to have partnered with Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) on this project. WWC is a non-profit organization that supports Canadas ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families, through a wide range of national programs and services, providing a spectrum of care that is focused on mental health and, particularly, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - one of the major challenges faced by the lead character in Ithaka. The National Partnerships Director of WWC, Corporal David Macdonald says, Having served in Afghanistan with the Canadian Infantry, this portrayal of a US Marine coming home from war strikes an all too familiar tone with me. Andrea Stolowitz captures it completely with an ending that will leave the audiences feeling what it means to be a veteran now home from war.
We hope that you will ADD THIS TO YOUR CALENDAR!!! And come out to the "Carnival" to help get a very important Canadian Premiere to the Havana Stage, and to bring awareness and light to a great organization like, Wounded Warriors Canada!
Thanks to you all from the ITHAKA TEAM!!!
