Huntsville Suzuki School East Indian Banquet
The Huntsville Suzuki School's 4th Annual East Indian Banquet promises to be better than ever! If you attended any of the first three, you know how good the food is. This year the chefs are cooking up Masoor dal, a cabbage-peas bhaji, potato-chickpea curry, and raita. Back by popular demand are chicken curry and pork vindaloo, as well as all the naan you can eat, lots of assorted chutneys, ice cream and masala chai. You won't go home hungry! Plan to take home leftovers for a donation as take-home containers will be available, provided there is any left. All food is prepared by the students and family members of the school under the direction of the school's artistic head, Ashwin "Philip" Kashap, whose father was from north India and taught him the subtle art of Punjabi cooking.
Many area businesses are very generous in their donations to the auction, which features a number of big-ticket items valued at $250 to $500, as well as dozens of smaller items ranging in value from $20 to $200. This year auction items will be listed ahead of time on the "e-Flea" website, and patrons will be able to pre-bid on them. Many excellent items are also given away as door prizes during the evening.
Entertainment is provided by the school's fine young musicians throughout the evening. It's worth the price of admission just to see them play!
Once again, the Huntsville Legion will be providing a cash bar offering soft drinks, beer and wine. Last year all 286 seats were taken for the one 6:00pm sitting. So come as you are, or round up a kurta, sari, or salwar kameez if you want to look the part, but get your ticket soon!
