Raging Asian Women Taiko Drummers
Raging Asian Women (RAW), one of the only all-women, all-Asian Taiko groups in Canada, will be presenting their next feature concert in March, 2016.
Inspired by the sold-out success of RAW's last concert (From Rage Comes), "Crooked Lines: Stories In Between" is a jam of both new and beloved songs played on the booming drums, story vignettes from the drummers' lives, and artistic collaborations with venerated Asian Canadian performers: Teiya Kasahara (opera) and Heidi Chan (percussion & music).
"Crooked Lines" will showcase RAW's well-loved brand of ferocity and spirit that charges audiences with energy, and uplifts them with hope. In the spirit of writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's plea to resist the telling of a reductive, "single story", Crooked Lines will trace the convoluted path that Raging Asian Women has travelled as an arts collective, and as individuals.
