Gary Innes & Ewen Henderson
Accordion virtuoso Gary Innes and renowned piper and fiddler Ewen Henderson perform a wonderful mix of contemporary and traditional Highland tunes, bringing the best of Scottish music to audiences all over the world. Whether touring as part of Gaelic super group Mànran, or as members of Box Club and Battlefield Band respectively, Gary and Ewen play with exceptional gusto and brilliance. This is a rare chance to hear these two artists performing as a duo in an intimate local venue please join us for an evening of musical fun!
Gary Innes is from Spean Bridge in the Highlands of Scotland, and has been playing music professionally since 2003. At a young age Gary learned accordion from his father, and other Lochaber players, before taking a music degree at Thurso College on Scotland's north coast. He released his first album "How's the Craic" in 2005, followed in 2008 by "Box Club" (as a member of Box Club), and in 2009 by "Shouts" (with Ewan Robertson - BBC Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year). Since 2010 Gary's main musical focus has been on Mànran, cofounding the sextet, which includes fiddler and piper extraordinaire Ewen Henderson.
Ewen Henderson hails from the Scottish West Highland town of Fort William and has been steeped in the traditional music and Gaelic culture of the area from an early age. Now in his twenties, Ewen started learning the fiddle at age five, and since then has mastered an impressive array of instruments, learning from many of the true masters of West Highland traditional music such as Aonghas Grant Sr. on fiddle and Angus MacColl on bagpipes, whilst also being influenced by his strong family musical heritage. Over the years, Ewen has been fortunate enough to play all over the world from Shanghai to the Isle of Skye with a host of top Scottish bands including the world-renowned Battlefield Band, with whom he toured for several years, as well as appearing on Battlefield Band recordings.
