The PMI Honolulu, Hawaii Chapter's Monthly Meeting topic is entitled, "Project Management Processes and the Role of the Process Owner"
Given the prevalence of long-established project management methodology, the words "project" and "process" go hand in hand. It is rare to encounter a project manager today who doesn't use and follow project management process. The Project Management Institute (PMI) recently published the fifth edition of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). Axelos has published the second version of Projects IN Controlled Environments (Prince2). In addition to these most prominent approaches, there is a plethora of methodologies, processes and guidelines published by countless experts and consulting firms.
The question is, how are these project management processes working, and more importantly, what does a project manager do or where does she or he go when they encounter process-related issues or problems? Project Managers also contend with a myriad of other business processes they must follow or invoke in the course of accomplishing their project tasks and meeting project objectives. What do project managers do when these processes aren't working or in the worst case, impeding project success?
Project management is one of the most disciplined and regimented processes in enterprises today, but like many enterprise business processes, they are not always founded in disciplined process management and cared for by an accountable and devoted process owner.
This presentation provides a high-level understanding of the role of the process owner in the realm of project management process. The presentation provides an overview of: - The essential elements of a successful process implementation to ensure process acceptance and adoption - A process management lifecycle that focuses on the customer of the process and the success of process participants - The role, responsibilities and attributes of a Project Management Process Owner
