The Rogers Park Food Co-op will present a special screening of the documentary "Food Patriots," on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at Bremner Lounge in Centennial Forum, 1125 W. Loyola Ave., on the campus of Loyola University in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood. Following the screening, the Co-op will present a panel discussion with Sam Spitz, an associate producer at Groundswell Educational Films who is featured prominently in the film, and other local food thought leaders.
Filmmakers Jeff and Jennifer Spitz were inspired to change the way their family ate after their oldest son got sick from eating chicken contaminated with a superbug, and antibiotics failed. The film chronicles their efforts to eat more locally, and their encounters with numerous food patriots--from an urban agriculture pioneer in Madison, WI, to a victory garden revivalist in Chicago--whom they meet along the way. Food Patriots features people from all walks of life who are trying to change the way Americans eat and buy food, and educate the next generation of consumers.
