Simon Scott with Marcus Fischer and Loscil
JAZ/Frond presents 12K artists Simon Scott (UK) and Marcus Fischer (USA) as well as Vancouver's loscil for an evening of forward thinking, contemplative sounds at the Wise Hall, April 15th, 2015.
Also known for his role as the drummer in the seminal shoegaze band Slowdive, UK-based Simon Scott brings his unique solo electronic music to Vancouver for the first time. Blending live instrumentation with audio processing, Scott's music is a rich and dense tapestry of sound. The Wire Magazine says: "Scott is particularly adept at layering coolly shimmering guitars and dark churning currents of noise into something vast." http://www.simonscott.org/
Joining Simon Scott will be Portland's Marcus Fischer. Fischer's work blends high and low tech, field recordings, live instrumentation and synthesis to create organic, gently flowing streams of melodies and noise. According to Resident Advisor: "The softly undulating gestures are like a landmass meeting the recessing sea." http://www.mapmap.ch/
Rounding out the evening will be loscil. A regular to the Kranky label, loscil is the ambient electronic project of Vancouver-based musician Scott Morgan. With loscil, Morgan musically explores density, texture and rhythm. According to The Quietus: "... [he] has slowly revealed his ability to compose stark landscapes that are evocative, earthly, anything but abstract, and so much more than merely 'ambient'." http://loscil.ca/
