20/20 Celebration of Sight & Sound
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Musicians and Community Band Together to Help Children See and Hear

Oregon City, ORE, February 23, 2015  The 20/20 Celebration of Sight & Sound on Saturday, March 21, 2015 will bring award winning blues, R&B and soul acts together with the community for a good time and a good cause. Proceeds go to provide vision and hearing care for children whose families cannot otherwise provide them through the 1190 KEX Kids Fund and the Oregon City Lions Club.

Now in its 5th year, the event got its start when award winning blues and gospel singer Rae Gordon was turning 40 and joked she was turning "20/20".  She wanted to hold a benefit instead of a birthday party that would have more lasting results, long after any candle on a cake.  She was drawn to make the 1190 KEX Kids Fund the beneficiary after learning more about the organization and recognizing herself in the stories.  The charity with the help of radio and television personality Paul Linnman and his wife Vicki and a dedicated board, provides eyeglasses and hearing aids to children of struggling families.  As a child, Rae had problems keeping up in school due to hearing and vision issues.  Her trouble seeing the blackboard and a family at home struggling financially kept her behind not only in academics, but in life. Now as an adult, enjoying a music career enhanced by both senses, she knows all too well how good vision and hearing care can make all the difference in being able to be successful.  She has made it her mission to get children help early so they wouldn't have to put their own dreams on hold.  Word about the event spread quickly and a caring fellowship of musicians, businesses and individuals, some with similiar stories banded together and stepped up to help that first year.

It became a true community offering the next year when the Oregon City Lions Club became a partner.  This chapter of dedicated community volunteers mission is deeply in step with the Kids Fund and they have made the 20/20 an event that brings warmth to the new year and most importantly, the help so desparately needed for children to thrive.  This is the Oregon City Lions Club's signature event and helps them to concentrate their efforts where most needed the rest of the year.

On Saturday, March 21, 2015, attendees will be treated to the best in northwest music, dinner and dancing with catered food from Singer Hill Cafe, libations from local award winning wineries and breweries, live and silent auctions including the Mt. Hood Explore, Wine Oh Romance, Band Camp, and the widely popular Blues & Brats package (formerly known as Meat & Music) with live band and Zenner's hot dog cart serving for 50 of your closest friends.

Three acts will entertain on that Saturday including local blues legend and one of Oregon City's own, former member of the Robert Cray band and recent Oregon Music Hall of Fame inductee DK Stewart(www.dkstewart.net), who will headline this year's charity event.  A fixture in and around the northwest with multiple awards, he has also tickled the ivories traveling with Curtis Salgado and for years with the late great Paul deLay.

Master of Ceremonies will be Rae Gordon, Cascade Blues Association's Best Female Vocalist for 2014 and member of the Rae Gordon Band, recent semi finalist at the International Blues Challenge, held in Memphis, Tennessee on the famed Beale Street.

Event is 6 to 10 p.m. at the Pioneer Event Center, 615 5th Street, Oregon City, Oregon 97045.  Doors to open at 5pm.
