Popular California organist, Dave Moreno, will accompany Harold Lloyd's 1928 classic silent movie feature, "Speedy". He will also present a wonderful mix of upbeat music, a few facts about the rare Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ that he will perform on that evening, and more.
In the film, "Speedy" loses his job as a soda-jerk, and then spends the day with his girl at Coney Island. He later becomes a cab driver and has the honor of delivering Babe Ruth to Yankee Stadium, where he stays to see the game. Excitement abounds when the railroad company tries to run the last horse-drawn trolley out of business. "Speedy" comes to the rescue by organizing the neighborhood old-timers to thwart their scheme. With period views of Yankee Stadium and Coney Island, this is a great film for lovers of exceptional location shots. It even features the legendary baseball player, Babe Ruth!
A couple notes of interest include the fact that the Yankees opponents at the beginning of the film are the Chicago White Sox. Also, "Speedy" was Harold's real-life nickname.
Dave Moreno has an extensive background in playing the theatre organ including accompanying silent films and performing solo music of the 1920's to 1950's. He also performs wonderful old-style jazz organ. Over the past 30 years, Dave has played in many of the great remaining vintage theatres and other venues including the Pizza and Pipes restaurants in both Sacramento and Fresno (to name a few).
Dave Moreno's warmth, personality and sense of humor is evident in his performances. This is when his enthusiasm for the art and musicality of another era truly shines to his delighted audiences.
