YWCA Bellingham

Bellingham United States

Whatcom County Women have a very good reason to celebrate this year...the YWCA Larrabee Residence is 100 years old.

Please join us on October 3rd, 2014, for this year's Leadership Breakfast, Celebrating 100 Years of Challenge and Change.  Come celebrate with us!  The event will be held at the Best Western Lakeway Inn as we welcome and celebrate the continuing legacy of woman leadership in our community.

Your support of the YWCA has been integral to reducing homelessness among women in crisis, helping women increase their capacity to achieve independence and self-sufficiency, and work toward the elimination of racism.

The YWCA Larrabee Residence Program provides housing for up to 36 women at a time in our cherished historic landmark building at Forest and Maple Streets in Bellingham. Support services help women make the move to permanent housing quickly and effectively. Case management insures that all residents make full use of available community resources. A Financial Fitness program assists women to achieve financial independence. Life skills and personal growth classes, support groups, recreational and social events provide confidence.

The YWCA also offers programs for the community including: The Back to Work Boutique; a Speaker Series on issues of importance to women and families, including Stand Against Racism, a national YWCA effort; and sponsorship of the Northwest Women's Hall of Fame.  YWCA participates in community support services including Domestic Violence Resource Network, The Whatcom County Homeless Coalition and Project Homeless Connect.

In "Celebrating 100 years of Challenge and Change", we will discuss the past, present and future of Whatcom County women who exemplify outstanding community service.  We'll also assess how that early struggle and later achievements motivate women elsewhere in the world to, "lead where you land."

Reservations to the Breakfast are required by October 1st! Please contact Mary Dickman at mary@ywcabellingham.org or (360) 734-4820 to reserve a seat or if you have questions.

We hope to see you at the breakfast but if you can't join us because....you're going to be on vacation, it's way too early in the morning, you stay home with your kids until school starts or you're on a diet ...then perhaps you would like to contribute online!  Your special help during this challenging time will be more welcome than ever.

Sincerely,

Laverne Lane
Interim Executive Director

Mary Harrington
Board President
