The Mill (fka experimental theatre chicago)Chicago
The Mill provides audiences the opportunity to expand their vision of the world through work that is both challenging and delightful. We support all theatre that is divergent from traditional American Realism because we believe that traditional American Realism is driving potential audiences away. We believe theatre must distinguish itself from these other forms of entertainment by heightening the artistic integrity of the work and must capitalize on its greatest asset: the live performer. We are influenced by the work of Ariane Mnouchkine and the Theatre du Soleil and their creation of a complete and unified experience, a theatrical event which begins when the audience enters the theatre, rather than when the play begins. A theatre without boundaries is a progressive idea which will help ensure a growth in audiences for the future. We believe that live performance, like all things, must be progressive to survive and that it is our duty as artists to help theatre find a new audience. |
