The Oakland School for the Arts Vocal Music Program provides pre-professional training for young aspiring vocalists.
OSA is currently housed in the historic Fox Theatre in downtown Oakland and is at the center of the artistic and cultural renaissance transforming our city. In 2009, OSA was the only Oakland school to win the Distinguished School Award from the California Department of Education.
The Vocal Programs Concert Choirs have performed at distinguished regional events in the Bay Area and abroad. On national TV, current OSA Vocal student Kehlani Parrish (member of the band Poplyfe) made history this fall as a top 4 act on America's Got Talent. In addition, select members of our Vocal department have performed at the Inauguration of Jerry Brown in January 2010, at the Giants Game at AT&T park, at the Raider's Game at the Coliseum, at the Warriors Game in Oakland, at the KBLX Choral Competition in Jack London Square where they placed 1st for the second consecutive year, and at the Fox Theater in 2010 for Children's Hospital Notes and Words Benefit concert.
The Department produces a Fall, Winter, and Spring Concert for the public.
