Talking With... written by playwright Jane Martin
TEN bizarre, defiant, outrageous, poignant, loony WOMEN ARE COMING TO ROGERS STREET THEATRE!
They will appear in Talking With, a play consisting of ten extraordinary monologues written by the playwright Jane Martin. Her resilient characters include a baton twirler, an ex-rodeo rider, a homemaker who transforms herself into the Patchwork Girl of Oz, a pregnant woman about to deliver an abnormal child, a tattooist. Each of these ten women speaks from the depth of her soul.
As we watch these individuals search for identity, we have to wonder: Who is Jane Martin? Talking With was first staged in 1982 at the Louisvilles Actor Theatre and then at the Manhattan Theatre Club. It won the 1982 American Theatre Critics Association Award for Best Regional Play, and has been performed around the world, winning a Best Foreign Play Award in Germany. And yet Jane Martins true identity is a closely-guarded secret. She is notoriously private and mysterious, never having been seen in public, even to collect any of her several awards. It seems she could easily be one of the characters in her play.
Talking With is brought to life by five very talented actors, Annegret Reimer, Beth Bevins, Brenda Pothier, Laura Crook, and Bethany Willcox. Directed by Ray Jenness.
