Newt Ecology and License Training
This one day course provides an in depth introduction to the ecology, surveying and conservation of Britain's three native newt species- Great Crested, Palmate and Smooth. Complete with a comprehensive practical visit to the ponds at Tidenham Chase.
Taught by David Dewsbury, a leading newt enthusiast and inventor of the Dewsbury box trap, and Alan Sumnall of GWT. The course covers the identification, distribution and status of native newts, relevant legislation, habitat requirements, and threats to species survival.
This is a unique opportunity to find out how and why the new box trap design was developed, discuss how it compares to more widely-used trapping methods and to spend the afternoon gaining practical Dewsbury box trap survey experience in the field.
Suitable for anyone with a professional or voluntary interest in amphibian conservation, and for those who wish to get a reference to extend their existing newt license.
