Speaker:
Jordan Peterson Ph.D
He has brought to Canada's attention the negative implication for free speech of a number of recent laws, and his lectures on freedom of expression have now been viewed by millions of people on Youtube.
With his students and colleagues, Professor Peterson has published more than a hundred scientific papers, transforming the modern understanding of personality, and revolutionized the psychology of religion with his now-classic book, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief. As a Harvard professor, he was nominated for the prestigious Levinson Teaching Prize, and is regarded by his current University of Toronto students as one of three truly life-changing teachers.
His YouTube channels with 150 videos have 115,000 subscribers and 2,500,000 views, and his classroom lectures on mythology were turned into a popular 13-part TV series on TVO. Dr. Peterson's online self-help program, The Self Authoring Suite, featured in O: The Oprah Magazine, CBC radio, and NPRs national website, has helped tens of thousands of people resolve the problems of their past and radically improve their future. He is also a practicing clinical psychologist.
Interviewer:
Norman Doidge, MD, FRCPC.
Psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, he is best known for his work on the brain. His book The Brain That Changes Itself is a New York Times and International bestseller, available in 23 languages, and has sold over a million copies. In 2010, the U.S. Dana Brain Foundations journal Cerebrum chose The Brain that Changes Itself from among 30,000 brain books as the best general book on the brain. His most recent book, The Brain's Way of Healing is also a New York Times, international and #1 bestseller in Canada. Both books have been made into films.
Dr. Doidge has written 150 scientific, popular, and literary articles, and is also a four time winner of the National Magazine Gold Award and the CBC Literary Award. A faculty member at both Columbia and the University of Toronto's Department of Psychiatry, he has also taught in the U of T's Department of Philosophy, and in the Department of Political Science. He has presented his research on five continents, at the White House and at the United Nations. He has twice hosted TVO's series, Mysteries of the Mind.
In October 2015, Dr. Doidge was recipient of the Special Recognition Award from Brain Injury Canada for his extraordinary, heroic contribution to advance the cause of acquired brain injury in Canada. He has been chosen as one of the Great Alumni of U of T.
