The Bookstore
The Bookstore by Adam Szymkowicz tells the story of Rachel, a young woman who inherits her late aunts quirky, possibly magical bookstore and faces a life-changing choice: sell it to a real estate developer for a fortune or fight to preserve its spirit. As Rachel spends more time in the shop, she discovers the deep sense of community, wonder, and connection that the bookstore brings to those who visit it. The play explores timeless themes of nostalgia, personal growth, and the tension between profit and passion. With warmth, humor, and a touch of magic, it reminds audiences of the value of art, storytelling, and human connection in an increasingly commercial world. The flexible staging and small-cast design make it a perfect fit for intimate, character-driven theatre. This production will be performed at Swamplight Theatre in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, offering local audiences a heartfelt, imaginative experience. It is a student-run show presented by Alpha Psi Omega, the National Theatre Honor Society at Southeastern Louisiana University, showcasing the creativity and dedication of emerging theatre artists.
