Pony World Theatre in partnership with West of Lenin, presents a reading of Language Rooms by Yussef El Guindi. This reading reunites the original cast from PWT's hit 2019 production! In lieu of selling tickets, PWT encourages people to donate to charities such as the International Rescue Committee, Immigrant Defender Law Center, Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, or UNICEF.
One night only! Thursday, September 25! Location: West of Lenin, 203 N 36th St, Seattle.
Language Rooms is a darkly humorous and haunting play about immigration, surveillance, detention, and the American identity. Ahmed is the quintessential American worker, trying to do his job right while navigating workplace politics and water cooler gossip. Only the office he works in so happens to be a secret military compound where where terrorism suspects are interrogated. Brilliantly shifting between comedy and suspense, Yussef El Guindi's award-winning Language Rooms takes Ahmed through a strange and unsettling journey. As his work and his loyalties are called into question, Ahmed realizes that more than his job is at risk.
While we wish this play felt obsolete and purely historical, El Guindi's brilliant has only grown in relevance and potency. That's why we're bringing back this story and reuniting so many from the original PWT production, including the full cast, the Associate Directed, Stage Manager, and even the Lighting Designer!
Featuring: Lowell Deo, Hisam Goueli, Abhijeet Rane, and George Sayah. Directed by Kathryn Stewart Stage Managed by Sara Staven
