Hike through History: Letchworth Village Reservoirs
The Historical Society of Rockland County Invites You to Join Us for a
Hike through History to the Letchworth Village Reservoirs
When: Saturday, September 27, 2025. The hike will start promptly at 9:00 am and is expected to last about three hours. Where: Meeting place and parking will be provided with your confirmed reservation Price: $20/person (prepaid reservation are required; price includes guided hike and your choice of book about Rockland County history)
Well start the day with a hike on paved and woods roads and trails in Harriman State Park to the mountain reservoirs that harnessed Horse Chock Brook to provide water supply to Letchworth Village. Hike leaders Gordon Wren and Tony Benedict will talk about Letchworth, founded by William Pryor Letchworth in 1908 and operated as a New York State custodial institution until it closed in 1996, and point out other historic and scenic spots along the Long Path and Woodtown Road.
For those who choose to extend the day, this special Hike through History will conclude at Kruckers Picnic Grove in Ladentown, where well enjoy an afternoon of traditional Oktoberfest entertainment and fare. (Oktoberfest admission not included in hike price.)
Please note: The hike (round trip) is rated moderate and will involve mostly level and gradual uphill grades. Participants must be in good walking shape and wear appropriate hiking boots or shoes. A walking stick is recommended.

Cancellation policy: All sales are final. If you are unable to attend, a refund may only be granted if your spot can be filled prior to the hike. A refund is not guaranteed if you are unable to attend for any reason. A waiting list will be compiled, and available spaces will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Only those who have made full payment can be accommodated.
