Johnny Delaware in concert!

Johnny Delaware is a folk-rock troubadour who sings observant, road-worn songs with a sense of warmth and rugged grace. Originally from South Dakota, he began his solo career in 2013, but soon joined the indie band SUSTO, which enjoyed national success in the latter half of that decade. Delaware's wayfaring eventually took him to Mexico where he resumed his solo career, recording 2022's Energy of Light. After making another album with SUSTO, he returned in 2024 with the glowing, psychedelic-tinged Para Llevar.
Delaware's career started in Charleston, South Carolina, where he developed a rootsy folk-rock style that paired atmospheric production with a bit of sunny, Laurel Canyon glow. Secret Wave was released near the end of 2013 to regional acclaim, but rather than move forward as a solo artist, he teamed up with fellow South Carolinian Justin Osborne to form SUSTO. The group toured heavily, releasing albums on Rounder and New West Records, and sharing stages with bands like the Lumineers and the Head and the Heart. During this time, the ever restless Delaware rarely stayed in one place, moving between Nashville, Albuquerque, Austin, Charleston, and at one point, Mexico City.
My Entire Life
It was during the global pandemic, while living in Mexico, that Delaware picked up the thread of his solo career and recorded Energy of Light. Self-released in 2022, the eclectic set fused quirky psychedelic touches with sunny folk-rock, indie pop, and Americana. A year later SUSTO released their fifth album, My Entire Life, by which point Delaware had settled back down in Charleston. Reflecting on his time in Mexico and the Southwest, he recorded his third solo album, self-producing it and playing most of the instruments himself. Poignant and atmospheric, Para Llevar was released in late 2024.
