Shearing and Fleece Prep
Join Us for a Living on the Land Workshop to learn all about Shearing & Fleece Prep! Hosted by Farmer Roni Ryan from Sage & Willow Farm & Shearer Elizabeth Resager. Whether you're new to fiber animals or a seasoned shepherd, this interactive class is packed with practical skills and expert tips to elevate your fleece game.

What Youll Learn:
-Fleece Prep for the Mill
Get hands-on with real fleeces and learn the art of skirting: what to keep, what to toss, and how to make your fleece mill-ready.

-Live Shearing Demonstration
Watch experienced local shearer Elizabeth Resager in action! Learn about pre-shearing prep, animal handling, and best practices for a smooth shearing day.

-Hoof Trimming Basics
See a live demo on proper hoof care to keep your animals healthy and happy.

-Parasite Check & Treatment Tips
Learn how to spot and treat topical parasites during shearing season.

-Q&A Session
Bring your questions! Chat with Farmer Roni Ryan and Shearer Elizabeth Resager after the demos

This class is a part of a new series called Living on the Land Workshops, a program by WSU Regional Small Farms for Kitsap, Jefferson, and Clallam counties. Living on the Land Workshops are for people living on small acreage, backyard growers, and anyone interested in connecting with their local food systems. Classes will take place online, where people can access them from the comfort of their home, and in-person at local farms for hands-on, interactive learning. Topics in 2025 will cover chicken and poultry care, raising and breeding small ruminants, seed-saving, food preservation, and composting.

WSU Extension Regional Small Farms Program has acquired portable language interpretation equipment to increase more meaningful access to educational opportunities. We currently offer live Spanish interpretation when available.
