Alash Ensemble at Frenchtown Elementary School
Experience a rare evening of traditional Tuvan throat singing and Central Asian folk music as the internationally acclaimed Alash Ensemble performs live at the Frenchtown Elementary School Auditorium on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
Hailing from the remote Republic of Tuva in Siberia, Alash blends the beautiful sounds of throat singing (xöömei) with traditional instruments like the igil and doshpuluur, creating layered harmonies that have captivated audiences around the globe. A band for 26 years, theyve toured internationally, collaborated with artists like Béla Fleck and the Sun Ra Arkestra, and offered educational residencies at schools and universities throughout the U.S.
This event is made possible through the efforts of local organizer Neighbor Mike, aka Michael Haller, who has a deep and personal connection to Tuvan music and the Alash Ensemble. In 2017, he traveled to Tuva after being invited by Alash with friends Robert McLaughlin and Damon Postle to perform in the Khoomei in the Center of Asia festival. Forming a spontaneous trio under the name Three Lost Americans, the group won Crowd Favorite. That connection deepened in 2024 when Michael stepped in as an emergency musician during part of Alashs U.S. tour, joining them onstage in multiple cities across Nevada and California after a member had to unexpectedly return home to Tuva.
