Rumi's Caravan Fundraiser
Rumi's Caravan offers live, recited poetry and music performed in the ecstatic tradition, celebrating the art of Rumi, Hafiz, and other mystic poets. It is our experience that when poetry learned by heart and embodied is spoken, it carries something of Soul with it and is, at once, more apprehensible and more meaningful to the listener than poetry read from a page.
Founded in the North Bay in 2000, the original intention was to support local community benefit organizations, to help restore the oral tradition of poetry, and to inspire audiences with a new imagination of the possible. This performance is to benefit the Saturday Breakfast for our Neighbors, which has been the flagship community outreach project for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Santa Rosa since it started in 2005. Since then it has served a hearty breakfast every Saturday to anyone who needs it.
