Conscious Collectors Cooperative 2023 Spring Foray
Spring has arrived, and soon the mountains will start to produce two of the world's most recognizable fungi; morels, and porcini. Both are highly regarded by chefs and mycophiles worldwide for their earthy aroma and excellent texture. For a few short weeks in spring, these incredible mushrooms appear in the high elevation habitats of the Cascade mountains. Both can be very challenging to hunt. An intimate knowledge of the plants, trees, and fungi that share this habitat is integral to understanding where and when to find these delicious offerings from the forest floor.
During the foray we will cover important details that every forager, or aspiring forager should know, and how to apply the concepts towards future foraging endeavors. What habitats to look in, how to properly pick and preserve, and much more. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge to be able to forage these mushrooms on your own, as well as building community amongst mushroom enthusiasts. After the foray we will travel to a beautiful private cabin on the Yakima River to decompress. Enjoy snacks while our good friend Jordan Jacobs gives a short presentation on the role of citizen science in our modern society. The day will conclude with a four course meal curated by Conscious Collectors Cooperative, including dessert! The menu will highlight foraged ingredients from the PNW and is fully vegetarian.
Location provided with ticket purchase.
