Pillar Rock Grill (Moses Lake Golf & Country Club)
Moses Lake, WA

The Washington Swine Information Day will be held on February 4, 2022 from 9:00 AM until 4:300 PM at the Pillar Rock Grill (Moses Lake Golf & Country Club) in Moses Lake, Washington.  Swine producers of all sizes; 4-H/FFA youth producers; agency representatives; agriculture educators; and fair/show representatives are invited to participate. The event has been organized and sponsored by Washington Pork Producers, National Pork Board Checkoff, and Washington State University Extension.

The 2022 Washington Swine Information Day will feature an array of presentations from State and National speakers that have been organized to meet the diverse and unique needs of Pacific Northwest Swine Producers. The Theme for the 2022 is Keeping Pork on the Plates.  In addition to a day of learning how to protect your swine herds health, participants will get to feast on a variety of unique and delicious pork dishes prepared by Chef Sammie of Pillar Rock--Bring your taste buds.

This summer African Swine Fever (ASF) was detected in the Dominican Republic, which puts the swine virus that has created significant loss globally very uncomfortably close to US boarders and our swine farms.  Market access both domestically and internationally could be significantly impacted if we were to get a disease like ASF in the Washington State, or even in the USA.

Regardless of how many pigs you care for, diseases can impact not only the health of your swine herd but also your ability to access markets and market prices. It is important for swine farms, shows and markets to implement biosecurity measures to keep diseases out of their herd and the USA herd. The objectives of this seminar is to provide pork producers and stakeholders with knowledge and tools to protect their herd and be prepared in the event of a disease outbreak that could impact their access to markets and transport of pigs.

Registration for the days event is $25 per person and includes seminar, handouts, lunch and break refreshments. An all-day youth registration, $15, is also available to 4-H and FFA members. Individuals may also attend just the afternoon session for $10. There is a $15 per person late charge for registrations postmarked after January 28, 2020.  Please pre-register so we can ensure adequate accommodations and meals.  A complete seminar agenda and registration brochure is available at https://extension.wsu.edu/animalag/ or by contacting Sarah M. Smith, WSU Extension Regional Specialist at smithsm@wsu.edu  or (509)754-2011, Ext 4363   Additional funding for this event was made available by Pork Checkoff funding.
