SNAIL ROAD [Cancelled]
SNAIL ROAD written by and starring ZOE LEWIS and featuring Qya Cristal, Mark Meehan, Joe MacDougall and Sharon Topper returns to Provincetown to celebrate the Town's 400th Anniversary.  The show is directed by Broadway veteran Donna Drake.

Snail Road is a love letter to P-Town and it originally premiered at The Art House in 2011 as part of Mark Cortale's first season as Producing Artistic Director.  Part of Kathi Driscoll's rave review for the Cape Cod Times is excerpted below:

"On my bike, I can speak, to everyone on Commercial Street, Zoe Lewis sings out joyfully at the start of her new musical, Snail Road. She is pedaling a stationary bike onstage at The Art House, with the Provincetown street spooling out behind her on a video screen, and you can almost feel the summer sun and see the sights she is fondly naming.

Its a bouncy, feel-good start to a musical that is her valentine to the seaside town the international musician has called home for the past 20 years, and to the freedom and tolerance people can find there. The subtitle for the hourlong production is a musical about bicycles, dreams and true love and that pretty well sums up the themes Lewis has lovingly embraced.

With a contagious smile and charming manner and voice, Lewis plays Gertrude Golightly, who is riding down Commercial Street when she is hit by a car driven by Mr. McGreedy. (We know hes evil because he wants to build trophy homes in the dunes. Theres little subtlety here, and Lewis is aiming for the crowd that loves the beauty of the area as much as she does.)

Golightly is thrown from her bike and knocked out. In an Oz-like journey, she  wearing red boots  travels to a parallel universe of sorts that starts with floating through the ocean.

Lewis fans will undoubtedly appreciate the score; those of us new to her work can easily become fans.
