The ABCs of BDSM, a Kink 101 Workshop
The kink community is growing as more and more people discover that their inner desires and natures tend not to line up with what conventional culture considers regular relationship behavior. More and more people are discovering their local community through online sources, discussion groups, and even through information available through books and peoples journals. This leaves many people with an interest in BDSM and Kink but with few good locations for reliable information. What does BDSM and Kink mean to you? What does it mean to others? Is this something I live, or something I do? Heck, where do I find all those other people that share these interests, and when I do how do I get involved without endangering myself or embarrassing myself?

This is your chance to get some of these questions answered, as in a three hour workshop and discussion we deep dive into the ABCs of BDSM.

This is an instructor-led workshop that means to ease peoples entry into the world of BDSM, whether they are merely interested on a personal level, or they are looking for the local community. There are as many reasons to go looking for kink as there are people, but we want to people build the tools and skills they need to find friends, relationships or a place where they can be comfortable exploring and expressing their kinky selves!

This class is oriented towards people first looking to get involved in BDSM/Kink or those looking to explore their local community. More experienced individuals are welcome to participate as well, as this is a great refresher course, and might help you reconnect with your personal kink!

Over three hours in this workshop we are going to cover:

* The Language of BDSM: What are all these different words, what do they mean? When someone says they are a bottom, dominant puppy boy, how can I put things together so we can reach a common understanding when we talk to each other?

* What BDSM/Kink means to me: Well talk about some of the personal reasons people get involved in kink and BDSM as an activity or a lifestyle. People are welcome to share their experiences that got them curious, got them interested and eventually had them seek out kink.

* Common Types of Play and the uses of Checklists: There are more types of play than we can define, but well look at some of the types of play you will most commonly encounter either in public play or for those that keep it to themselves. Well also look at checklists as a way to start working towards your lists of hell yeah and hell no activities.

* Safety Risk and Red Flags: We like to think that getting involved in BDSM and Kink means that people will communicate better and well all be safer. Sometimes thats not true, and there are some definite hazards involved with getting into kink, well discuss some of the physical and mental risks involved in this lifestyle, as well as a few of the legal hazards involved with practicing kink.

* Your First Dungeon Party: So you think this is all great, and youre ready to go out and get your kink on! Well chat about what youll likely see at your first BDSM party, some common courtesy behaviors to avoid a social faux pas as well as things you should definitely do!

This workshop is going to encourage active participation, but we want to make sure we have an educational and comfortable experience for everyone involved. We follow these principals of teaching consent:

* No One is required to participate in anything that makes them uncomfortable. If at any time you feel pressure to participate, you should feel free to speak to a representative of the space during or after the class or workshop.

* You are not expected to contribute to the discussion in any way if you do not wish to.

* The instructor will inform the workshop attendees of anyone working as a teaching assistant bottom, as well as any of their pre-negotiated rules regarding how the bottom will participate to make sure that attendees are given full awareness of consent.

* If there is something unclear in the workshop, you are not required to request clarification at the time, if you wish private clarification, the instructor will give contact information so you may get that clarification if needed.

The instructor for this workshop, Geoffrey Quick has been kinky for over 20 years, been a part of the local Olympia community for over a decade, has run a public munch for over 8 years, and has been running workshops and classes for over 2 years. As someone who switches, he approaches BDSM/Kink from many sides, and brings that experience and perspective to his instructional style.
