7 Time James Beard Nominated Couple Curate a Special Dinner Pop-up for Valentines Day
An opportunity to break bread with all of our loved ones

This upcoming Valentine's Day David Gilberg and Carla Goncalves are resurrecting the soulful flavors of Portugal at the MAAS building.

"the flavors  exude the unabashed zest of pure Portuguese soul." -Craig LaBan 2010

Feed your nostalgia for Portuguese cuisine and the beloved KZD (koo zee doo) on this very special night.Join us for a five course family style meal crafted with the most special of all ingredients, love.
Come share another meal with David and Carla.

The meal will be prepared at one of South Kensingtons best kept secrets, the MAAS Building.  Koo ZEE DOO and the MAAS Building will also be teaming up with Tinys Bottle Shop to offer an eclectic, natural wine paring. The event is a BYO optional. In the spirit of the community building objectives of the MAAS the meal will be served at communal tables.

The meal will be shared on February 14th @ 7pm

ABOUT THE CHEFS:
David Gilberg and Carla Goncalves opened KOO ZEE DOO (KZD) (the phonetic spelling of cozido, which means "cooked" in Portuguese)  a rustic Portuguese restaurant in 2009.  Through the short four years of it's existence KZD garnered much acclaim and seven James Beard nominations for the couple.  David and Carla continue to practice their craft in and out of Philadelphia, spending a couple of years running a small hotel and restaurant in Thousand Islands, NY and most recently as opening chefs at Cry Baby Pasta.

"Carla Gonçalves, whose childhood and family in northern Portugal inform the genuine spirit of this unusual endeavor."  Craig Laban 2010

ABOUT THE MAAS BUILDING:

The Maas Building, originally built in 1859 as the Charles Maas Brewery, later became a trolley car repair shop for the Girard St trolley line. The building had fallen into disrepair when Ben Riesman and Catherine Birdsall bought the building in 2008 and began to nurse it back to life. The Maas Buildings rehab was designed to incorporate modern ideas into the existing industrial structure, using simple, minimal modern design to highlight the buildings industrial past.  Today, the Maas Building is in use as an arts space, cultural entity and event hall for many types of arts activities. With private workspaces as well as public venues, The Maas Dance Studio, The Hi5 Recording Studio, and The 5th Side all call the Maas Building home.
All communities are welcome at the MAAS Building.
