The Field of Imagination, Thomas Paine & 18th century poetry by Dr. Scott Cleary
Dr. Cleary has been a professor of English Literature at Iona College for the past 12 years specializing in 18th century writings, focusing on poetry. His published works include Thomas Paine and Poetic Liberty, and articles on Alexander Pope, Christopher Smart, Benjamin Franklin, and the 18th century Catholic Cisalpine Movement.
A former Director of the Institute for Thomas Paine Studies, Dr. Cleary brings an enormous depth of political, cultural, and literary knowledge to the role that poetry played in Paines political activism and philosophy.
