Workshops led by artist Jill Jensen, and the Maier's Curator of Education, Laura McManus inspired by the exhibition, "Children's Book Illustrations: Visual Storytelling."
Explorations in Monotype Saturday, October 19, 10 am - Noon Never printed? No problem. In this no-stress workshop experiment with a variety of materials and techniques to create one-of-a-kind prints using a small printing press and hand pressure. Workshop includes an overview of printmaking history and contemporary printmakers. You will leave with a stack of prints that you can incorporate into future projects or keep as unique works of art. All tools and materials provided. Bookbinding 101 Saturday, November 16, 10 am - Noon Come fold, glue, cut, and stitch at the Maier! Make two blank books using traditional hand-binding techniques, including the 5-hole pamphlet stitch and Japanese stab binding. All tools and materials, including handmade, printed, and decorative papers, included. Workshop includes an overview of bookbinding history. Participants that take the workshop Explorations in Monotype, Saturday, October 19, may bring their prints to incorporate into the handmade books.
