INTENSIVE | Best Face Forward - Stage Makeup with Sparkles Du Jour
Your face can be one of the most commanding parts of your performance. But makeup for the stage isnt the same as our day to day looks. In this Intensive series, we'll discuss how to create bold, glamorous looks perfect for stage!
We'll take a deeper dive in discuss products, application, and understanding your unique facial needs to make sure you shine. This series seeks to be an inclusive course for all levels and backgrounds of makeup skills - come hone your craft, learn new tips and tricks, and have a ton of fun getting glam while doing it!

Class 1: Assembling Your Arsenal This class will be part discussion and history of makeup, and how stage makeup differs from our day to day looks. In this first class we will not be applying makeup, but will discuss how to create your dream look - how to come up with a concept for your stage look and what products will be needed to achieve it. Class will cover topics like where to shop, what products work best for different skin types, and making a face plot. Bring your makeup and tools!
Class 2: Solid Foundations Sometimes the hardest part of doing stage makeup is knowing where to start. Luckily, most looks can have a similar starting base that can then be altered for your specific act. This class will focus on the base of your look, and the products needed to make it last! We will start with skincare, then cover priming, foundation, concealing, baking, highlighting and contouring the face. We will be creating a neutral look, but will discuss tricks that can be used to alter our features for stage.
Class 3: The Eyes Have it If looks could kill, this class will help you slay em! Your eyes are one of the most expressive parts of the face, so let them shine! In class, well discuss brows (including how to cover them), creating color combinations with eye shadow and pigments, applying liner, lashesand glitter! Well be applying makeup so bring your tools!

About the Instructor: SPARKLES DU JOUR has been a makeup aficionado most of her life, and has been sharing her skills with others since she was in high-school doing makeup for school plays, musicals, and dances. She extensively studied stage makeup at Cornell college, designing for numerous student and professional shows, as well as teaching makeup courses to other students. She has also taught stage makeup workshops across America while touring with Missoula Children's Theatre. Sparkle specializes in old school glam, avant-garde, gore, period looks, and of course GLITTER! Sparkles believes that makeup can be a powerful tool to create character and enhance the innate beauty we ALL possess.
THE TWIN CITIES BURLESQUE ACADEMY, (formally Playful Peacock) the first school of its kind in the Twin Cities, was founded by Ophelia Flame and Gina Louise, who have been performing together since 2003 and teaching burlesque workshops since 2005. The belief that there's a bit of showpony in all of us is the drive behind their mission: to teach burlesque technique, performance, and history while encouraging self-expression and body confidence, welcoming students of all levels and backgrounds.
