2019 Green-Duwamish Watershed Workshop: Stewarding Public Lands and Waters with Encampments
As our region is growing and changing, so is the nature of those experiencing homelessness and its environmental impacts to our public lands and waters. In this workshop we will gain a deeper understanding on the changing nature of who is living in our green spaces, their needs, and the impact on our lands and waters. We will look at available resources and collaborations to help maintain the health of environmental of our natural areas and the health of those encamped on them through new approaches which provide innovative and collaborative solutions.
The workshops goal is not to solve homelessness but to better understand it in order to: mitigate the environmental impacts, promote safety for crews and volunteers, connect individuals to support services, and promote positive behaviors of usage which in turn support the environmental health of these areas.
This is a workshop geared for professional planners, ecologists, land managers, and those working in habitat restoration/maintenance and water quality from organizations and agencies responsible for managing and stewarding public lands and waters.
Our purpose is to foster collaboration, build partnerships, share knowledge and spark innovation concerning the GreenDuwamish Watersheds health; inspiring those working on the watersheds ecological challenges and social issues.
