Team up for Kelly
Kelly's life was forever changed on August 2, 2017. She underwent successful brain surgery that day to clip a large aneurysm. However, during the surgery, she suffered a stroke that has devastated her life. The stroke caused brain damage impacting her ability to speak, as well as her power to use and comprehend words. While she has made steady progress with the help of therapy and the support of family and friends, Kelly's future remains unclear.
She has been out of work for more than a year now. As much as Kelly would love to return to her job at Reeds Jewelers, her doctors are concerned that she wouldn't be able to handle the required tasks. It's possible that she may never be cleared to work again.
In addition, Kelly's request for Social Security disability benefits was denied in June. She is appealing the denial, but it may take as long as two years before her case is even heard, let alone decided. Significant income has been lost by her and her family and the amount increases with each workday lost.
Kelly is determined. The stroke has not determined her spirit. Instead, she has become an inspiration to her family and friends. As a way to show her how much she means to us, we are holding a benefit for her on Saturday, March 23, 2019. It will be held from 2 to 7pm in the Frontier Fire Hall, 2176 Liberty Drive in Niagara Falls.
