Build Your Own Birth (Plan!)
Your birth experience starts here, at the beginning, even while you're still trying to conceive. So why is it that so many childbirth education courses aren't taught until you're in your third trimester? By that point in your pregnancy, you've likely already settled on both a provider and a birth space.
That's bananas!
Reality: different providers and different hospitals/birthing centers follow different protocols, policies, and practices. In some cases, these established routines may impact (or completely interfere with) your vision for your birth, a vision you may not have even sussed out until after you've completed your childbirth classes.
We want you to know your options and pick your preferences before you nail down your space and support system, that way you can make sure you've built the birth team you need to pursue the birth you want. In this two week, two-day series we will cover all the whats, whens, whys, and hows of childbirth, from common pregnancy complaints all the way to the welcoming hour right after birth, and we will work together to build a birth plan that outlines your desires for your family.
You can then use this plan to find your perfect who (provider) and where (birth space).
This class is meant for those trying to conceive or in early pregnancy (25 weeks or less), but anyone at any stage is welcome. You may attend alone or with your partner (admission covers attendee + one support person.)
Potential Topics To Be Covered Include: Birth Partner Communication Birth Planning Common Pregnancy Complaints Nutrition & Weight Gain Common Prenatal Testing in the 2nd & 3rd Trimesters The Anatomy of Labor & Birth Fetal Positioning The Labor Process The Three Stages of Labor Non-Medical Pain Relief & Comfort Measures Medical Pain Relief Positions for Labor & Birth Interventions The Welcoming Hour
