Cubasere welcomes Luis Yoel Samada, better known as El Choco, a premier dancer recently relocated from Cuba to the U.S. El Choco grew up dancing in the neighborhood of Marianao, Havana Cuba. At age 19, he began dancing professionally and training with such dance companies as Aláfia and Compañía Ban Rarrá. Aside from being a soloist dancer at Ban Rarrá, he has been an instructor at the Baila en Cuba Festival of Havana. Samada has performed and taught internationally and has also been featured as a dancer in various music videos such as Haila Mompies No Te Toca and Pupys La Conga Pelotera. Cubasere is thrilled to welcome Samada back to Bellingham to share his talent and passion for Cuban dance.
1pm-2pm : Afro-Cuban Chango y Oya Learn the movements and variations of these two Orisha dances from this master of Afro-Cuban folkloric dance.
2:15pm-3:15pm : Rumba Guaguanco / Yambu / Columbia Go in depth to learn and understand the differences between the three styles of Rumba. This class will give you the techniques to be able to improvise and dance Rumba and add Rumba elements to your other social dancing.
3:30-4:30pm : Son Tradicional (Intermediate/Advanced) Go beyond the basics of this classic Cuban partner dance with figures and styling. Before there was Salsa...there was Son.
