The Last Five Years
Jason Robert Brown's Drama Desk winner, The Last Five Years, is an emotionally powerful and intimate musical about Cathy and Jamie, two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. The show's unconventional structure has Cathy telling her story backwards while Jamie tells his story forwards. A film adaptation was released in 2014, starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan, and now this popular and enduring show is coming to Washington, DC.

Opening with Cathy's turbulent reflection on the end of the marriage ("I'm Still Hurting"), the show then takes us back to Jamie meeting Cathy for the first time and falling desperately for her ("Shiksa Goddess"). The story moves back and forth as Jamie experiences their courtship as it develops, while Cathy lives the marriage in reverse. Jamie and Cathy come together to share a duet for their wedding ("The Next Ten Minutes"), then diverge again as we see them drift apart from Jamie's perspective and fall in love from Cathy's ("Goodbye Until Tomorrow / I Could Never Rescue You").

By turns funny, heartbreaking, frustrating, and explosive, this can't-miss musical will be performed for one weekend only, March 1-3, at DC's Hart Auditorium near Union Station.

Starring Rachel Kuenzi and Danny Beason.  Produced in collaboration with the Georgetown Gilbert and Sullivan Society.  The Last Five Years was written and composed by Jason Robert Brown, originally produced for the New York stage by Arielle Tepper and Marty Bell, and originally produced by Northlight Theatre in Chicago, IL. Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.  www.mtishows.com
