2017 Wheat Academy
December 12 & 13: Wheat Academy offers hands-on learning

PULLMAN, Wash.  Two days of comprehensive, hands-on learning await participants of the annual WSU Extension Wheat Academy. Growers and industry professionals from all over the Pacific Northwest are invited to the WSU Pullman campus December 12 and 13 to learn about disease diagnostics, wheat management, soil health, wheat breeding, and much more directly from the experts during intensive, 90-minute presentations.

The Wheat Academy will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 12 and will be held in the Vogel Plant Biosciences Building Teaching Laboratories on the WSU Pullman campus. Registration is $75 for growers and $125 for industry representatives. Registration is limited to the first 75 registrants. The registration fee covers parking on campus, two lunches, a catered social hour, and light refreshments throughout the two-day event. Registration will open on October 10. During the Academy, participants will get to select ten presentations to attend out of the twelve available. There will be six presentations each day from which to choose. This years presentations are:

-Large-Scale On-Farm Research Trials to Support Soil Fertility Management
-Disease & Disease Disorder Diagnostics
-Identifying and Managing Insect Pests on the Farm
-Soil Health  What Are Your Plants Trying to Tell You?
-Fallow Weed Management in the Age of Glyphosate Resistance
-Design, Analysis, and Interpretation of Research Trials
-Market Strategy Development
-Effect of Soil pH on Wheat Diseases
-Thinking Outside the Crop Rotation Box; Planning for Oilseeds & Companion Crops
-Wheat Breeding v2.017: New Tools to Support Variety Genetic Improvement

The Dryland Cropping Systems Team has applied for 4 Idaho, Oregon, and Washington Pesticide Recertification Credits.  We have been approved for 3 Nutrient Management, 6 Integrated Pest Management, and 10.5 Crop Management Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for Certified Crop Advisors.
