Why don't they come? Strategies to increase Latino participation in outreach programs
The Latino/a community has rapidly grown in Washington and professionals in Extension and other organizations are increasingly challenged to reach out to this audience. Any model, approach and practice to reaching out to Latinos/as will not be effective without understanding their needs, characteristics, and cultural and socio-economic factors. The training Why dont they come? Strategies to increase Latino participation in outreach program offers tools, skills and collaboration opportunities to work more effectively with Latino families. At the end of the training you will:
Be more aware of your own and your institution/office/programs standing on inclusion of Latinos in policies, plans and activities Better understand the Latino communitys cultural values and beliefs and its demographic makeup Gain or reinforce best practices and effective methods in working with Latinos/as Identify strategies and practices to work with Latinos in their counties Plan an activity oriented towards the Latino community Start or expand partnerships to serve Latino families and other underserved communities Design and implement culturally appropriate and effective programs with/for Latinos/as
