Critically acclaimed composer, vocalist, Persian setarist, and multi-instrumentalist - Fared Shafinury has effectively unearthed ancestral roots in classical Persian music and poetry. He reinvigorates the ancient sound with modern influences ranging from American folk/rock/blues to Western classical & folk Iranian music. Seamlessly improvising between Eastern and Western themes and modalities, Shafinury bridges the classical to the psychedelic with the use of electronic elements.
For this special evening, Fared will perform an original live score, presenting compositions from his upcoming album COLDFRONT, to Sergei Parajanov's 1968 masterpiece The Color of Pomegranates. Images from the film were inspired by the life and poetry of 18th-century Armenian poet, Sayat Nova ('The King of Song').
