The comedic clash between the uptight and conformist Kirbys and the free-living, much loving Sycamores breaks out when the two families find their children have fallen in love! Raised in a house where homemade fireworks, spur of the moment dance recitals, and pet snakes are the norm, proper and ingratiating Alice Sycamore certainly stands out amongst her family members. When her loving fiancee, Mr. Tony Kirby, proposes that the families meet each other, the Sycamores struggle to hide their quirks from the boy's business-like parents.
