From Rags to Riches: Why Art went Pop!
Focusing on the birth of Pop Art, this tour walk you though some of Britain's greatest artists, explaining the ideas behind Anthony Caro's abstract sculptures, Brigit Riley's optical illusions, David Hockney's graphic swimming pools and Frank Auerbach's impastoed landscapes. Set against the backdrop of World War II and the swinging 60s, we shall discuss why Pop art happened and how the term 'conceptual' needn't be so elusive.
