Coffins, Crypts & Contemporary Art: A Walking Tour of Morris Hill Cemetery
Join art and architectural historians Amy Pence-Brown & Dan Everhart on a 1.5 hour walking tour of Boise's historic Morris Hill Cemetery.
We'll be learning about the extraordinary artforms the American cemetery combines, including architecture, landscape design, statuary, glasswork and literature, the people who they honor and the often unknown artists who created them. Morris Hill, like all American cemeteries, is truly a living museum, as funerary art trends have closely followed traditional art movements throughout American history. Cemeteries house the dead, but gravemarkers are fashioned by the living, who record on them not only their pleasures, sorrows, and hopes for an afterlife, but also more than they know document their history, ethnicity and culture.
This walking tour will be held rain or shine, so please plan and dress accordingly with comfortable walking shoes and a bottle of water.
*Member discount: If you are a member of Preservation Idaho and wish to take advantage of a $2 member discount, please email Dan Everhart at Dan@preservationidaho.org for the member discount code.
